I’ve Been There…

Like many people, I spent my 20s and 30s creating a professional career, which in my case was in the Forensic Science and Energy industries. I worked long days, travelling across the country, living in hotels doing my best to balance the demands of a busy career with family, friends, studying and an unwavering love of any form of high intensity fitness. I was conquering the world, so just anyone try and stop me! But my health and particularly, my gut suffered.

My ability to tolerate the pain in my gut and absorb stress ramped up over the years. I got used to running on adrenaline, being ‘that one’ in the restaurant with the long list of things I couldn’t eat, the seemingly never ending bloating, the anxiety, the sleepless nights crying and doubled up in pain, my body freezing cold and shaking– it was just the way I was and I had to deal with it.

Until one particularly stressful week at work, a series of sleepless nights, a final exam to cram for, a week of poor food choices, I was running for a train to catch it before the doors closed. I suddenly stopped, collapsed on the platform and was taken to A&E.

After a series of tests and several consultations with gastroenterologists and surgeons it was deemed that there was nothing physically ‘wrong’ with me. I was left distraught – surely this couldn’t be ‘me’ for the rest of my life? I knew there had to be a reason for my symptoms, a different way of leading life and my focus turned to searching for that reason.

A short career break and months of research followed and it led me to study the science of nutrition. Piece by piece, using the knowledge I gained, I rebuilt my health. I changed my mindset, the foods I ate, the way I approached life, my work, my fitness and I transformed. I couldn’t believe the difference! I now live symptom free, am full of energy and revel in the joy of food. I still love my high intensity fitness (some passions never fade), but I know how to make my passion for fitness work for me.

Fast forward a few years and I am now a Nutritionist and founder of Osku, specialising in hormone health. I help women struggling with long-standing hormonal issues finally understand the cause of their problems and help them rebalance their hormones to feel energised, revitalised and restored.
